Not able to install/uninstall a program says ‘you need local administrator privileges’.
Original Title: i have administrator privileges but when i try to install a program it tells me i dont and need them. please help!!i have checked around on the internet and can find very little on the subject. i have xp sp 2. i have checked under user settings and it says my profile has administrator privileges but when i try to install/uninstall a program it says "you need local administrator privileges. any solutions?

Hi,· Did you make any software or hardware changes on your machine prior to this issue?· Which program are you trying to install or uninstall?Let’s follow these methods & check if it helps.Method 1You may try to run the setup file of the software as an administrator & check if it get’s installed.To start a program as an administratorMethod 2a. You may also try to take ownership of C:\Program Files folder & grant permission to it. Thereafter, check if the issue persists.i. Right click on drive and select “Properties” from Context Menu.ii. Click on Security tab.iii. Click on “Advance”.iv. Now click on Owner tab in Advance Security Settings.v.Click on Edit Button and select user from given Change Owner to list if user or group is not in given list then click on other users or groups.vi. Enter name of user/group and click ok.vii.Now select User/group and click apply and ok. (Check “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects” if you have files and folder within selected folder)viii.Click ok when Windows Security Prompt is displayed.ix. Now Owner name must have changed.x. Now click Ok to exist from Properties windows.b. To grant permissions to the C:\Program Files folder. You may follow these steps.i. Right click on drive and select “Properties” from Context Menu.ii. Click on Edit button in Properties windows Click ok to confirm UAC elevation request.iii. Select user/group from permission windows or click Add to add other user or group.iv.
